Captains Capitalize On Cubs Miscues

September 5, 2015

(Eastlake, OH) -The Lake County Captains opened up their final home stand of the season by doing something they haven't done since 2012. With a 5-2 come from behind win over the South Bend Cubs, the Captains won their 70th game in a season for the first time since 2012.

The Cubs would grab an early lead off of Captains' starter Casey Shane. Angelo Amendolare and Kevin Encarnacion started the game with back to back singles. With one out, Jordan Hankins would deliver a two run single to score both runners for a 2-0 lead.

After Shane settled in, he would hold the Cubs scoreless over the next five innings.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Captains would get on the board. With two outs Yu-Cheng Chang reached on a fielding error. Grant Fink followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Ordomar Valdez would then hit a ground ball to Cubs' second baseman Angleo Amendolare. Amendolare would bobble the ball to allow Valdez to reach on an error. He would then proceed to throw the ball away at first base allowing Chang to score to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Captains would take the lead for good in the seventh inning. With one out Silento Sayles would reach on an infield single. Francisco Mejia followed with a single as well. Anthony Santander would then reach on an error to load the bases. Taylor Murpy's ground ball to first went under the glove of Jordan Hankins for an error that allowed Sayles and Mejia to score to tie the game and then give the Captains the lead. Santander would then also score on an RBI single by Chang. A bases loaded walk to Valdez would bring home the final run of the game and pushed the score out to the final of 5-2.

Shane would get a no decision in 6.0 innings of work. Shane allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 6. Corland Cox (2-0) got the win in 2.0 innings of relief. He did not allow a hit, run or a walk. Cox struck out 1. Cameron Hill (10) earned the save with 1.0 inning of relief. Hill allowed 1 hit and struck out 1.
