El Paso Earns Win 9-4 Over Round Rock

In the bottom of the first, Round Rock LF Dustin Harris drew a leadoff walk and 2B Justin Foscue drove him in with a double down the line. Foscue moved to third on 1B Blaine Crim’s single and scored on a DH Trevor Hauver sacrifice fly for a 2-0 advantage.
El Paso 2B Nate Mondou got aboard in the top of the second with a triple into the right field corner. C Cody Roberts sent him home with a sacrifice fly cutting the Chihuahuas deficit to 2-1.
In the top of the fifth, Chihuahuas CF Forrest Wall walked to start the inning. Wall stole second and moved to third on a RHP Luis Curvelo wild pitch. 3B Clay Dungan singled on a line drive to center and Wall scored the tying run.
El Paso took the lead with three runs on four hits in the sixth inning. 2B Nate Mondou sent RF Yonathan Perlaza in with an RBI double before Roberts drove a run in with a sacrifice fly. Wall tallied an RBI single to give the Chihuahuas a 5-2 advantage.
The Express got a run back in the bottom of the inning. Crim drew a walk to start the inning and CF Michael Helman later drove him in on his second base hit of the night.
Round Rock cut into the El Paso lead with another run in the seventh. SS Richie Martin drew the E-Train’s fifth leadoff walk of the night and scored on Foscue’s single through the right side to make it 5-4.
The Chihuahuas loaded the bases to start the top of the eighth. RHP Robert Dugger retired the next two batters but SS Mason McCoy recorded a two-run single that extended the El Paso lead to 7-4.
In the top of the ninth, El Paso added two more as 1B Trenton Brooks delivered a RBI single and LF Bryce Johnson scored on Perlaza’s groundout. The Chihuahuas earned a 9-4 victory in the series opener.
E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:
CURVELO’S STREAK SNAPPED: Round Rock RHP Luis Curvelo had his 12-game scoreless streak come to an end after surrendering a run in the fifth inning on Tuesday night. Curvelo had not allowed a run since April 24 and has not given up more than one run in any outing this season. The right-hander has allowed a hit in just four of his last 13 appearances.
CODY STILL COOKING: 3B Cody Freeman singled in the bottom of the eighth to extend his on-base streak to 14 games while holding an 11-game hitting streak. Freeman is slashing .406/.451/.688 with six doubles, four home runs, 18 RBI and five strikeouts during the streak.
IT ALL STARTS WITH A BASERUNNER: Round Rock put seven of its nine leadoff batters aboard in Tuesday’s series opener. The Express drew five leadoff walks, three of which scored a run.
