Round Rock Blanks El Paso 4-0 on Saturday Night

Express Earn Fourth Shutout Win of the Season

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (43-49) recorded their fourth shutout of the season and second at home by defeating the El Paso Chihuahuas (38-53) by a final score of 4-0 at Dell Diamond on Saturday night. DH Curtis Terry helped secure the E-Train win with a two-run home run in the sixth frame.

Round Rock starter RHP Glenn Otto (2-1, 2.70) earned the win after throwing 5.0 shutout innings that saw just one hit and four strikeouts. El Paso starter RHP Brett Kennedy (1-5, 8.64) allowed all four Express runs to cross on five hits and four walks during his 5.2-inning outing, tagging him with the loss.

The first Express run of the contest crossed home in the second inning. After working a two-out walk, LF Elier Hernandez was sent home thanks to a 2B Trace Loehr double, giving the home team a 1-0 lead.

Round Rock increased its advantage to 4-0 in the sixth, starting when Terry blasted a homer that landed on the center field shed, bringing C John Hicks in with him after the catcher had reached on a leadoff single. 1B Charles Leblanc tallied the next run after hitting a single then scoring as Loehr tripled down the right-field line.

Express relievers LHP Wes Benjamin and RHP Tyson Miller helped Otto to the shutout with 4.0 lights-out innings to keep the Chihuahuas off the board. Benjamin recorded four strikeouts over three frames while Miller threw two during the ninth inning, bringing Round Rock’s total on the night to 10.

Saturday night’s shutout marked Round Rock’s first at Dell Diamond since a 6-0 opening-day win against Oklahoma City. On the road this season, the E-Train has blanked Sugar Land 7-0 on June 11 and Sacramento 14-0 on July 18.

Round Rock and El Paso meet for game four of the series on Sunday at Dell Diamond. Express LHP Brock Burke (1-5, 6.54) is scheduled for the start against a Chihuahuas pitcher to be announced. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
