Round Rock Splits Series with Las Vegas After 9-4 Loss on Sunday

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Aviators kicked off the first inning with seven runs on five hits and four walks. 1B Logan Davidson and CF Denzel Clarke each recorded a two-run double. Las Vegas plated another run on a RHP Adrian Houser balk. DH Willie MacIver notched an RBI single and SS Darell Hernaiz drew a bases-loaded walk as Las Vegas led 7-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Round Rock DH Blaine Crim belted his sixth home run of the year into the Express bullpen in left field. 2B Cody Freeman followed with a solo shot of his own and the E-Train trailed 7-2. Las Vegas 3B CJ Alexander hit a 447-foot homer in the top half of the seventh. Clarke notched his second extra-base hit of the day with a triple in the right-center gap, then scored on MacIver’s groundout and the Aviators extended their lead to 9-2.

3B Ezequiel Duran belted his second home run of the series in the bottom of the eighth, cutting the E-Train deficit to 9-3. Round Rock scratched another run across in the ninth on a RHP Elvis Alvarado wild pitch but still fell short by a final of 9-4.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

CRIM QUIETLY WORKING: After going 2-for-4 with a home run on Sunday, DH Blaine Crim has a hit in seven of his last eight and 22 of his last 26 games. He owns an eight-game on-base streak and has reached base in 25 of 26 games.

THREE’S COMPANY: 2B Cody Freeman went 2-for-4 on Sunday with a homer, bringing his season average to .306. Round Rock has three batters over the .300 mark including Crim (.318) and 1B Justin Foscue (.313).

ROUGH STARTS: The Express surrendered seven runs in the first inning of Sunday’s contest. Round Rock has now allowed 23 earned runs for a 7.67 ERA in the first inning this season. Round Rock’s earned run average for all other innings is 4.68.
