Express Stir Up Magic, Beat Comets in Wild Walk-Off Thriller

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Round Rock RHP Gerson Garabito threw 6.0 complete innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while RHP Bobby Miller held the Express scoreless on two hits in 6.0 innings.
The Comets got on the board in the seventh as RF Esteury Ruiz recorded his third home run of the year. The solo shot put Oklahoma City ahead 1-0.
Oklahoma City scratched another run across in the eighth. The Comets loaded the bases with a pair of singles and a C Chris Okey walk. SS Alex Freeland snuck a single through the left side scoring CF Justin Dean from third and extending the lead to 2-0.
Comets LF Steward Berroa led off the ninth with a double and moved to third on 1B Kody Hoese’s single. 2B Austin Gauthier hit a sacrifice fly to center field allowing Berroa to tag and score from third.
In the bottom of the ninth, Round Rock put two on as CF Alejandro Osuna and 3B Jonathan Ornelas were both hit by a pitch. With two down, 1B Blaine Crim belted his ninth home run of the year and the game was tied at three heading into the 10th.
Okey started the 10th on second base for the Comets. Ruiz got aboard with a single Okey moved to third. Freeland grounded into a double play and Okey scored the go-ahead run to make it 4-3.
SS Cody Freeman opened the bottom of the 10th on second. The Express loaded the bases as Ornelas drew a walk and 2B Frainyer Chavez singled. With two outs, DH Kellen Strahm lined a base hit through the right-side sending Freeman and Ornelas around to complete the comeback and tie the series with a 5-4 walk-off win.

GARABITO GETS IT DONE: RHP Gerson Garabito held the Comets scoreless with one hit, one walk and four strikeouts across 6.0 innings of work. He threw 58 pitches Garabito’s start is tied for the third longest by a Round Rock pitcher this season. It is his longest outing since May 18, 2024, when he also threw 6.0 innings against Reno 365 days ago.
ORNELAS: 3B Jonathan Ornelas recorded a hit in all six games of the homestand. He held a 1.036 OPS in the series reaching base 15 times in 28 plate appearances. In his first 18 games with Round Rock, Ornelas owned a .145 average (8-55). Since May 1, Ornelas is batting .279 (12-43) in 12 games.
ANOTHER WIN… SOMEHOW: Oklahoma City has been held scoreless through six innings just three times this season, all of which have been at Dell Diamond (4/13, 5/14 and 5/18). Round Rock has won all three of the games after the 10th inning comeback on Sunday.
WIN PROBABILITY: After OF Kellen Strahm hit into a fielder’s choice and the Express were down to their last out, they had a 1.4%-win probability according to MiLB Gameday.
