ROUND ROCK, Texas - Walk it off! Round Rock Express (34-22) DH Lorenzo Quintana continued his hot streak since being called-up to Triple-A, notching a walkoff RBI single in Saturday night's 10-inning contest at Dell Diamond to top the Iowa Cubs (33-24) 2-1.
Express LHP Reymin Guduan (1-1, 2.87) earned the win after a 10th inning appearance out of the bullpen, punching out two of the three batters he faced. On the losing side, I-Cubs RHP Matt Carasiti (1-1, 2.49) suffered the loss after surrendering Quintana's game-winning hit that scored an unearned run.
After three scoreless innings, Iowa broke the tie as 3B Phillip Evans and DH Robel Garcia worked back-to-back walks. Evans then advanced to third when 1B Taylor Davis flew out to left field and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly thanks to CF Jacob Hannemann .
The Express fell victim to five straight 1-2-3 innings until 1B AJ Reed cracked the Cubs pitching in the eighth, launching a solo shot that landed in the visiting bullpen to level the score at one, eventually forcing extra innings.
In the 10th, Reed started at second base per MiLB extra-inning rules and advanced to third on an Anibal Sierra fielder's choice. Quintana then played hero as he shot a single up the middle to plate Reed in walkoff fashion.
The Express and Cubs transform into the Round Rock Chupacabras and Demonios de Des Moines respectively as part of MiLB's Copa de la Diversión campaign. Chupacabras RHP Cy Sneed (3-5, 4.11) is slated to face off against Demonios RHP Colin Rea (6-1, 2.77). First pitch in Sunday's matinee game is set for 1:05 p.m.
