Round Rock Train Bandits

This story takes us back to 1878. The infamous Sam Bass and his gang of outlaws arrive in Texas. Known by name only as the most prolific train robbers in US history, "The Sam Bass Gang" had gone undetected. However, that came to an end in Round Rock, Texas when Texas Ranger A.W. Grimes nicked Bass while in the crossfire of his gang, eventually leading to Bass' demise.

The logo is a loose representation of the infamous train robber Sam Bass. Bass was often seen sporting a mustache and cowboy hat. The gold coin in his mouth depicts the over $60,000 (nearly $2 million today) of newly minted gold that he and his gang robbed throughout their exploits.

The City of Round Rock later named Sam Bass Road and A.W. Grimes Boulevard after the two historic figures, both of whom are laid to rest at the Round Rock Cemetery.

Round Rock Donuts

Originally started in 1926 as Lone Star Bakery, the historic storefront in downtown Round Rock has long been a staple of the community thanks to its delicious confections. The infamous orange-yellow-hued donut was brought to life in the 1940s, and by 1965, was declared the best doughnut in Texas by Texas Monthly. Round Rock Donuts celebrates its 100-year anniversary in 2026.

The local hotspot has been named the No. 1 Donut Shop in the US by Yelp in 2022, No. 21 Most Legendary Dessert Place in the World by TasteAtlas in 2025 and its iconic Texas-Size Donut was featured on Man v. Food in 2008.
