Express Strike for Three Runs in the Ninth for Late Lead

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Sacramento struck for a run in the bottom half of the first. CF Jonah Cox doubled to start the inning and came around to score when 3B Parks Harber doubled down the left field line.

SS Keyber Rodriguez tied the game at one in the top of the fifth with a solo home run.

The Express grabbed a 2-1 edge with a run in the top of the sixth. DH Logan O’Hoppe got aboard with an infield single and advanced a station on SS Aeverson Arteaga’s throwing error. Later, DH Cooper Johnson’s single sent O’Hoppe around from second to put the E-Train in front.

The River Cats answered right back with a run. 2B Diego Velasquez walked and advanced to third on a ground-rule double from C Zach Morgan. Velasquez scored on a sacrifice fly from SS Aeverson Artega, evening the score at two entering the final three frames.

Round Rock grabbed a late lead in the top of the ninth with a trio of runs. RF Trevor Hauver and Rodriguez started the inning with singles. RF Orlando Martinez was used as a pinch runner for Hauver. Kelenic scored Martinez with an RBI single and advanced Rodriguez to third. 2B Cody Freeman drove in Rodriguez with a sacrifice fly and Bride capped off the inning with an RBI single to make it a three-run advantage.

RHP Gavin Collyer quieted the Sacramento bats in the ninth to secure a 5-2 victory.

OF JARRED KELENIC: has recorded a hit in 5 of his first 7 games back since rejoining the Express on 7/29… RBI single in the 9th marks his 24th RBI of the season with Round Rock… since being re-added to the Round Rock roster, owns a league-high 1.429 OPS.

LHP ADAM MACKO: (ND, 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R-ER, 1 BB, 32 pitches, 21 strikes) made his first appearance in the TEX organization after being traded to TEX on 8/3 from TOR in exchange for INF Josh Smith and RHP Josh Stephan… went to his fastball 60% (20/32) of the outing… evenly mixed his slider and changeup the rest of the outing… threw 3 first-pitch strikes to the 8 batters he faced… owned a 2-2 record with a 4.07 ERA (11 ER/24.1 IP) in 19 G with Triple-A BUF this season.

INF KEYBER RODRIGUEZ: hit a solo shot to start the 5th inning… marks his 3rd home run in his last 10 G, bringing his season total to 9… T-2nd on the team with nine round-trippers despite joining Round Rock on 5/29 from Double-A Frisco… 106.8 mph off the bat is the 4th hardest hit home run by an Express batter this season… 3 of Rodriguez’s 9 homers have been recorded over 100.0 mph… 7 of the 9 long balls have come on the road.

DH LOGAN O’HOPPE: went 1-for-5 with a double, a run and a strikeout as the designated hitter on Thursday night…is now batting .313 (16-51) with a .999 OPS in 12 career games at Sutter Health Park (9 with Los Angeles-AL and 3 with Round Rock).
