HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1:

Wednesday morning’s game between the Round Rock Express and Sugar Land Space Cowboys at Constellation Field was postponed due to unplayable field conditions following heavy rain. The postponed game was moved to 4:35 p.m. on Saturday before the originally scheduled April 25th game against the Space Cowboys.

The Express scratched across three runs on four consecutive hits to open the scoring in the top of the first. 1B Trevor Hauver and SS Cam Cauley singled before 3B Richie Martin followed with an RBI single to score Hauver from second and give the E-Train an early one-run lead. DH Aaron Zavala drove in Cauley and Martin with an RBI double to give Round Rock an early 3-0 advantage.

The E-Train added a pair of runs in the third to extend the lead. Hauver singled and advanced to third base on Cauley’s double. Martin drove in both runners with an RBI single to grow the Round Rock edge to five.

Sugar Land got on the board in the bottom frame to cut the deficit to four. 3B CJ Alexander singled and came in to score on a double by LF Zach Dezenzo, who was thrown out at third base trying to stretch it into a triple.

The Space Cowboys cut the deficit in the bottom of the fourth. 1B Cavan Biggio drew a walk and C César Salazar followed by launching a two-run home run to narrow Round Rock’s lead to 5–3.

RHP Ryan Brasier tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save and secure the 5-3 win in game one of the doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2:

RHP Mason Thompson and LHP Thomas Ireland combined to toss 4.1 scoreless innings. Thompson tossed two scoreless innings, striking out two and allowing one hit. Ireland went 2.1 innings, allowing three hits and striking out four batters faced.

Round Rock broke the tie in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs. RF Dairon Blanco led off the inning with a single and scored on a triple by 1B Nick Pratto. LF Jonah Bride knocked in Pratto with an RBI single to give the Express a 2-0 lead.

Sugar Land got on the board and tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. C Carlos Pérez reached base on a walk, and 1B Collin Price followed with a two-run home run to tie the game at two.

Neither team was able to scratch across a run in the seventh and the game went into extra innings.

In the eighth, 2B Justin Foscue started the inning at second base. SS Michael Helman singled to score Foscue and give the Express a 3-2 edge.

Sugar Land loaded the bases in the bottom frame and Price hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at three.

The Express regained the lead in the top of the ninth. Helman started the inning on second and CF Gilberto Celestino reached on a walk. C Jose Herrera drove in Helman to give the Express a one-run edge. The E-Train loaded the bases for Foscue, who worked a walk and drove in an insurance run, giving Round Rock a 5-3 advantage.

The Space Cowboys loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth inning. Pratto entered as a relief pitcher and recorded the final out, securing the 5-3 win and doubleheader sweep.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

STEADY SUPAK: RHP Trey Supak pitched six strong innings in game one of the doubleheader on Saturday to earn his first win of the season. Supak allowed four hits and three runs, including a home run, while walking four and striking out four batters.

GREETINGS GILBERTO: OF Gilberto Celestino went 2-for-6 with two hits, a run and a walk between the two games. Celestino’s run in the ninth inning of the second game provided a key insurance run for the E-Train to complete the doubleheader sweep.

DOUBLEHEADER DOGS: The E-Train swept both doubleheaders against the Space Cowboys on Thursday and Saturday. The Express are now 11-3 when scoring at least five runs in a game and 1-11 when scoring four or fewer.
