In the bottom of the second inning, Hunter Gaddis was able to get the first two outs of the inning until Colt Keith roped a double to keep the inning alive for Tyler Nevin. Nevin then smoked a two-run home run over the right-center field wall to give the Hens an early 2-0 lead.
Wentz kept the Clippers to just one hit and no runs through the first three innings of the ball game. The one hit came in the second inning after Zack Collins singled to right field.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Mud Hens offense ignited. With two runs already in the game the Hens were able to put runners on second and third with one out. Tyler Nevin added two more RBIs to his stat line and gave the Hens a 4-0 lead. With Nevin on second, Andre Lipcius decided to launch a two-run home to left-center field to cap off a four-run inning for the Hens and take a 6-0 lead to the fourth. After this, the Clippers went to the bullpen Jason Bilous to get them out of the inning.
After the Mud Hens continued to put runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Nick Solak singled and Wenceel Perez was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with no outs. Later in the inning with one out, Colt Keith lined a single past the second basement and the Hens added two runs to the lead, taking an 8-0 lead to the fifth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Clipper's offense finally started to ignite. Chris Roller and Tyler Anderson both singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. The next batter Daniel Schneemann slugged a two-run double to put the first two runs on the board for the Clippers. After getting two outs, Mud Hens manager Anthony Iapoce went to Braden Bristo out of the bullpen to get the final out.
Mason Englert came into the game to pitch the top of the seventh inning for the Mud Hens. Englert allowed a leadoff double to Angel Martinez but was able to work around it and strand the runner on base.
Blaire Calvo pitched the eighth inning for the Mud Hens. Calvo walked the first batter he faced with no outs in the inning. A ground ball moved the runner over after the Hens were able to get the first out. With a runner on second, Jonathan Rodriguez *slugged a two-run home run to make it an 8-4 Mud Hens lead.
The Mud Hens went to Trey Wingenter to pitch the ninth inning with a four-run lead. Wingenter pitched a scoreless frame to secure the 8-4 victory over the Clippers.
