WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 5, 2021) - The Winston Salem Dash fell Wednesday to the Rome Braves in the second game of a six-game home stand.

Kevin Newman called on Pauly Milto to take the hill for the Dash (0-2). Milto, the former Indiana Hoosier, struggled mightily in the first, allowing a run on three walks. Milto settled down in the second inning, allowing no walks. However, he allowed another run after Cody Mulligan drove in Kevin Josephina, who laced a triple into right field.

The Dash offense backed their starter in the second, battering Braves (2-0) starter Tanner Gordon with five second-inning runs. Luis Curbelo belted a three-run shot in his Dash debut to put Winston-Salem up by a run, showing the power he boasted at prior levels. The homerun parade continued as Bryce Bush sent a two-run longball to left field, chasing Gordon in the process.

Despite the insertion of reliever Lisandro Santos, Braves pitching continued to struggle, as Santos walked in a run to give the Dash a 6-2 lead.

In the fifth inning, Rome first-baseman Bryce Ball reached base for the third time after blasting a solo home run off of reliever Wilbur Perez, bringing Rome within three.

The script flipped in the sixth, with Rome delivered a crippling blow to the Dash. With reliever Declan Cronin inserted for the first time, Rome loaded the bases for catcher Logan Brown, who slugged a 384-foot grand slam to give the Braves their first lead of the game.

The Dash sparked some hope in the seventh inning as Braves reliever A.J. Puckett walked Henri Lartigue with the bases loaded to put Winston-Salem within one, but luck ran out after Braves reliever Zach Daniels earned the five-out save, sending their Dash to their second loss in as many nights.

The Dash continue their series with the Braves Thursday night at Truist Stadium. Right-hander Johan Dominguez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will take the hill for Winston-Salem against fellow right-hander Ricky DeVito (0-0, 0.00 ERA), First pitch is slated for 7 p.m., and fans can catch all the action at https://www.milb.com/winston-salem/fans/audio-listen-live.
