BOWIE, MD – Altoona committed a season-high five errors and picked up their first hit of the night in the eighth inning in a 3-1 loss to the Bowie Baysox. Bowie is now one win away from clinching a postseason spot.

Jack Suwinski broke up the combined no-hit bid by Bowie’s Drew Rom, Tyler Burch and Ryan Conroy with a clean single through the right side of the infield. Matt Fraizer added a single with two outs in the eighth inning to give Altoona their best chance for offense on Friday night. Arden Pabst then reached on an error by centerfielder Johnny Rizer to plate the Curve’s lone run of the night.

Bowie built their 3-0 lead with an unearned run in the first inning and a two-run homer from Patrick Dorrian in the third inning off Curve starter Jeff Passantino. Passantino took the loss despite striking out a season-high six batters over four innings pitched. He allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits and one walk in his final start of the season.

Altoona stayed in the game with a brilliant relief outing from Noe Toribio who made his sixth relief appearance since coming off the injured list. Toribio struck out a season-high seven batters over four hitless innings of relief. Toribio walked one man and had two men reach on errors during his outing.

Oneil Cruz became Altoona’s first baserunner of the night when he drew a walk to start the seventh inning. Cruz stole second base for his 18th stolen base of the season in 21 attempts.

The Curve continue their series with the Baysox on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. LHP Trey McGough (5-5, 3.54) will start for Altoona, with LHP Bruce Zimmerman slated to make a rehab start for Bowie.
