BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Two home runs for the Altoona Curve backed seven one-run innings by starting pitcher Pedro Vasquez during a 5-1 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Saturday at NYSEG Stadium.
Hunter Owen tied the contest, 1-1, when he began the fourth inning with a solo homer, his league-best 15th of the season, over the left field fence off Rumble Ponies (33-29) starter Luc Rennie (Loss, 0-1). Following a one-out walk by Owen in the sixth, Bligh Madris took Rennie deep to right-center for a tie-breaking, two-run shot that gave the Curve (34-31) the upper hand.

Vasquez (Win, 6-1) continued his dominance on the hill in his third start after a two-game stint at Triple-A. Coming off back-to-back scoreless starts of six innings each, the righty held Binghamton to one run on four hits. Andres Gimenez greeted Vasquez with a lead-off triple in the first and scored the game's first run on a ground out by Braxton Lee. From there, Vasquez would strand three runners on base while the Rumble Ponies were unable to move a runner beyond first base over the final eight innings.
Vasquez got involved in the offense during the seventh when he started the inning with a single to right, his second hit of the year. Robbie Glendinning got aboard with two outs to extend the inning for Jerrick Suiter, who smacked a two-run single to center after the runners advanced on a wild pitch as the Curve took a 5-1 lead.

Yeudy Garcia fired two scoreless innings in relief and faced the minimum with the help of a double play in the ninth to erase a lead-off single by Lee, his second hit of the game.
Altoona goes for the sweep in the series finale on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Right-hander Beau Sulser (4-0, 1.34) will start for the Curve against southpaw David Peterson (2-2, 4.82) for the Rumble Ponies.
