CURVE, Pa. -- Brandon Waddell tossed six shutout innings and rolled with early run support as the Altoona Curve defeated the Erie SeaWolves, 4-1, on Monday at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
It was the third time in seven starts for the Curve (52-45, 17-13) that Waddell (Win, 3-1) faced the SeaWolves (52-44, 21-9) and all three times the left-hander held them scoreless in six innings of work. Waddell scattered four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out six to give him 28 strikeouts over his last four starts. He collected three of his six strikeouts in the first inning and retired the SeaWolves in order twice.

The Curve gave Waddell an early lead when they jumped on SeaWolves starter Alex Faedo (Loss, 5-6) for three runs and five hits in the third inning. Brett Pope opened the scoring with a line-drive, RBI triple to the right-center gap to score Chris Sharpe , who doubled down the left field line to start the inning. Mitchell Tolman and Logan Hill each added an RBI single to give the Curve a 3-0 lead. Tolman brought home another run with a two-out, RBI double to right in the fourth to extend the Curve lead to 4-0. Faedo struck out eight batters in five innings but gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks.
Tolman, Sharpe and Pope each had two hits in the win. Tolman drove in two runs and scored one, Sharpe scored two runs and Pope reached base safely three times and scored a run as well. Jared Oliva joined the action and extended his career-high hitting streak to 10 games with a third-inning single.
Joel Cesar (Save, 1) faced the minimum over the eighth and ninth innings en route to his first career Double-A save. Cesar rolled a 4-6-3 double play grounder in the eighth to erase a leadoff single and struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning.
The SeaWolves scored their only run of the night in the seventh. Blake Cederlind retired the first two batters he faced, then hit Cam Gibson with a pitch before Chace Numata delivered an RBI double to right.
