GreenJackets & Giants Release 2019 Roster

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, have announced the 2019 roster which is set to debut on the road at McCormick Field, Thursday, April 4^th against the Asheville Tourists (Colorado Rockies). The 2019 team will make their home debut on April 15^th against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Pittsburgh Pirates).

"We couldn't be more excited about the 2019 roster and can't wait to see them take the field here at SRP Park in 17 short days," GreenJackets Vice President, Tom Denlinger said. "This team is loaded with talent and every single night, fans in the CSRA can see some of the top prospects the Giants have to offer."
The roster is headlined by some of the Giants top pitching prospects. Sean Hjelle is the highest ranked prospect among the group. MLB.com lists the 6'11" right-hander as the Giants #6 overall prospect. After being drafted in the 2^nd round (45^th Overall) in the 2018 MLB Draft, Hjelle spent his first season in professional baseball with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the Class-A Short Season, Northwest League. While at the University of Kentucky, Hjelle had 222 strikeouts in his three seasons to go along with a 3.68 ERA.
#7 Prospect in the Giants system, right handed pitcher Jake Wong, will also head east to Augusta. Wong, a 3^rd Round selection in 2018 out of Grand Canyon University, also spent the 2018 season with the Volcanoes. In his 27.1 innings-pitched, he posted a 2.30 ERA last year.
"My staff and I are really excited about going back to North Augusta," GreenJackets Manager, Carlos Valderrama said." We really have high expectations with our young and talented players that we have this year and we're really looking forward to having some fun at SRP Park."
19-year old pitcher Gregory Santos is another live arm the Giants are excited about. MLB.com lists Santos as the Giants #8 overall prospect. Last year, the hard-throwing right hander was an All-Star in the Northwest League as he racked up 46 strikeouts to just 15 walks for Salem-Keizer. He appeared, and started, in 12 games in 2018. The Giants received Santos in July 2017 when they traded Eduardo Núñez to the Boston Red Sox.
After finishing the 2018 campaign with the GreenJackets, right-handed pitcher Juan DePaula will start the season in Augusta. DePaula, the #19 prospect in the Giants system, was another trade acquisition when the team dealt Andrew McCutchen to the Yankees on August 31, 2018. The Giants sent DePaula to Augusta to make one start, on September 2^nd, to end his 2018 season. He went five innings allowing only one run. De Paula spent the majority of the year with the Class-A Short Season, Staten Island Yankees. While there, he went 2-2 with a 1.71 ERA in 10 appearances.
The Giants will return Jacob Gonzalez back to the friendly confines of SRP Park. Gonzalez, the Giants #20 overall prospect, played 122 games for Augusta last year and had a batting average of .227. The son of five-time MLB All-Star Luis Gonzalez  hit eight home runs in 2018. He was a 2^nd Round draft pick out of high school in 2017 and was most coveted for his ability to hit for power.
Another Top 30 Giants Prospect includes Seth Corry. The left-handed pitcher was a 3^rd Round pick out of high school in 2017. Last year, between the Arizona League and Salem-Keizer, Corry had a 3.59 ERA in 59.2 innings-pitched.
Other intriguing names to call SRP Park home in 2019 include Diego Rincones and Jesus Tona. Both were Northwest League Mid-Season All-Stars for the Salem Keizer Volcanoes last year in Class-A Short Season. Rincones, the Outfielder and Venezuela native, slashed .315/.357/.455 and was named the Northwest League All-Star Game's Most Valuable Player when he went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Tona was one of the most effective relievers in all of Minor League Baseball last season after he posted a 0.87 ERA and accumulated 12 saves while throwing 31 innings in 2018.
The GreenJackets return seven names to SRP Park from 2018. Along with Gonzalez, those names include Aaron Bond, Franklin Van Gurp, Shane Matheny, Ismael Munguia, Jeffry Parra and Tyler Schimpf.
