'Celery's Greatest Race'

There are few triumphant journeys that captured the hearts of fans from Western New York and Southern Ontario more than the inspirational story of Celery and its lone victory in 450 WCC Races at Sahlen Field. Now, children and parents alike can relive its uplifting story of hard work, determination and persistence in Celery's first biography, 'Celery's Greatest Race.'

The book, produced by the Bisons, written by Depew-native Amy Myhalenko and distributed by Mascot Books, takes readers back to Celery's journey from a young stalk in the ground just hoping to be selected to go to a farmer's market to that famous late summer night when it crossed the finish line ahead of its competitors for the first and only time.

Celery's Greatest Race is now available in the Bisons.com Online Shop. The 24-page book sells for $15.

Proceeds of every book sold will go to the Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries

Celery's book tour will include stops at area Barnes & Nobles as well as Erie County Libraries and local schools and day cares. Stay tuned for full dates and times.

"Celery's journey from seed to stalk to victory lane is one of most inspiring stories of the 21st century. Bravo, Celery!"

Tom Atoes, The Veggie Times

"'Celery's Greatest Race' perfectly captures how one hard-working and loveable vegetable became the hope of a generation."

Rue Barb, Garden Herald

'Just One Win'

Celery is one of the most iconic ballpark figures in recent memory and is beloved by fans of all ages for its inspirational journey. Debuting as an original racer in the Bisons' nightly Wing, Cheese & Celery (or WCC) Race, the vegetable didn't earn a single victory in its first 449 attempts. However, after announcing it would retire from racing after the 2017 season, Celery claimed its first and only victory on August 30 of that year in an event that captured the attention of the entire WNY community.
