The Bisons were held to five hits and were just 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position in falling to the Red Wings, 6-1, Thursday night at Frontier Field. The defeat is Buffalo's seventh consecutive, including all four over the last three days in Rochester.
The Herd's lone hit with runners in scoring position came three batters into the contest. Anthony Alford doubled home Jonathan Davis to give the Bisons an early 1-0 lead.
But from there, this game was all Red Wings. RBI-singles from Gregorio Petit and LaMonte Wade Jr in the bottom half of the first inning made quick work of the early Buffalo lead. In the third, Nick Gordon singled and came around to score on a passed ball by Herd backstop, Michael De La Cruz. Then a three-run fourth inning put the game out of reach. Jon Kemmer had an RBI double to deep left field in the frame and Gordon added a second hit to bring home Byron Buxton.
The Bisons best chance to cut into the lead came in the eighth inning when they loaded the bases with just one out. Alford singled to lead off the frame and Rowdy Tellez and Jason Leblebijian walked to fill the bases. The Rochester pen got out of the jam as Andrew Vasquez struck out Gunnar Heidt and Tyler Duffey came in to fan De La Cruz.
The loss for Buffalo went to Michael Hauschild. The righty allowed six runs (five earned) over six innings.
The Bisons will not travel to Syracuse to close the season out with a four-game series against the Chiefs.
