John Katz was born and raised in Canton, MA and is a graduate of Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. He started his baseball career as an intern for Major League Baseball's Arizona Fall League in 1993 and is now beginning his 27th year in baseball - his 21st as a team's top executive. John is a three-time league Executive of the Year award winner: South Atlantic League (2017), Carolina League (2006) and California League (2000).
Katz was the owner's representative on design, development and construction for Segra Park and for Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton, CA (2005).
An avid English football fan, John supports Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and the mighty AFC Wimbledon in England's League One - a club that grew from the ashes like a phoenix and completed the progression from a non-league side to the Football League in just nine years. One of the most exciting sports memories for John was attending the third round of the FA Cup in January of 2018, as Tottenham hosted AFC Wimbledon at Wembley Stadium.
With a community-oriented mindset, Katz enjoys serving as a board member for the Columbia Urban League, Experience Columbia SC and Katrina's Kids Foundation. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina.
John and his wife live in Columbia with their three children and their Newfoundland dog, appropriately named Harry Kane. In his free time, Katz enjoys watching his sons play soccer for South Carolina United and AC Flora High School, playing pick-up soccer, listening to obscure podcasts and watching English Football (especially when he is in London). He is anxiously anticipating the opportunity to see his daughter compete in diving.
