COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Fireflies will once again end a season at Spirit Communications Park by paying tribute to a legendary musical act. Grateful Dead Night is scheduled for Thursday, August 30. The Fireflies wrap up their season three home schedule in Columbia against the Charleston RiverDogs.
"We are excited to bring this celebration to the park," said Fireflies team President John Katz. "I went to a Dead show back in college and they were one of the best live bands I have ever seen. Their notoriety has continued to grow through the years, which is evident in the wildly-popular Jerry Fest in Five Points each fall. We are excited to be part of that and hope to make this an annual event at the ballpark."
Local band Stillhouse will perform from 6-7pm on the centerfield concourse adjacent to the Budweiser Bowtie Bar. This event is on a Thursday, so Thirsty Thursday™ half-priced drink prices will be in effect as well as $1 Bud Light all night.
The first 750 fans into the park on August 30 will receive a Fireflies Grateful Dead themed t-shirt, courtesy of McWhirter, Bellinger & Associates. There will also be vendors set up throughout the night to create a 'Shakedown Street' atmosphere. Also, make sure to stick around to the end to enjoy the final fireworks show of the 2018 season, set to the sounds of the Grateful Dead.
"You don't need to be a baseball fan to enjoy Grateful Dead Night because, much like any Fireflies game, there truly is something for everyone," added Katz. "As Jerry said, 'once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right."
