Giants sign veteran infielder Jimmy Rollins
Earlier this morning, it was announced that 38-year Jimmy Rollins signed a minor league deal with the San Francisco Giants. Rollins spent 2016 with the Chicago White Sox and 2015 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but is most known for his 15-year career with the Philadelphia Phillies. From 2000-2014, Rollins made the All-Star team three times, was named the National League MVP, and took home four Gold Gloves at shortstop.
From MLB Trade Rumors: "At this stage of his career, however, Rollins is simply looking to make a Major League roster and contribute in a reserve capacity. San Francisco's middle infield includes Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik, while Brandon Belt and Eduardo Nunez figure to shoulder the load at the infield corners. Rollins is a Bay Area native, though, so the idea of playing for the Giants even in a limited role likely carries some appeal."
Rollins was drafted in the second round of the 1996 draft (46th overall) and is a career .264 hitter.
