SALISBURY, MD - The Baltimore Orioles Player Development Department has named Delmarva Shorebirds pitcher Brian Gonzalez and outfielder Randolph Gassaway as the Organizational Pitcher and Player of the Month for August, 2016. This is each player's first recognition from the Orioles Player Development Department this season.
Gonzalez, who was recently named a South Atlantic League Post-Season All-Star as the league's best left-handed pitcher, has had a terrific season with the Shorebirds. In August, Gonzalez went 3-2 with a 2.29 ERA over six starts. He has earned victories in three of his last four outings and has lowered his ERA this season to 2.55, which is the fifth best mark in the league.
Gassaway won the South Atlantic League's Player of the Week earlier in August and has had a terrific month. He finished the month hitting .356 over 28 games with 7 doubles and 7 home runs. He finished with a slash line of .405/.634/1.039, sparking the offense in an otherwise challenging month. Gassaway finished the month with four multi-hit games over his last six affairs. His marquee game of the month came on August 13th at West Virginia when he went 4-for-5 with two homers and five RBI's.
Both players will be presented with a personalized award recognizing their achievements.
