Frisco Bullpen Loses Lead in Corpus
Corpus Christi took an early 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the first frame, but the RoughRiders answered with two in the second inning when Johnny Whittleman doubled and scored on a wild pitch and Steve Murphy scored on a sacrifice fly by Craig Gentry. The Hooks tied the score at two in the third inning on another unearned run, but Frisco retook the lead in the fifth when Lemon connected on his first homer of 2009. Frisco held the 3-2 lead until the eighth when the Hooks scored three times to take the late 5-3 advantage for the Corpus Christi victory.
Beavan allowed two runs (none earned) on eight hits over seven innings, striking out three and not walking a batter. Jose Diaz (3-1) allowed three runs in relief for his first loss of the season. Corpus Christi reliever Doug Brocail (1-0) earned his first victory for the Hooks and Evan Englebrook notched his second save.
Frisco was out-hit 11-7 as Dustin Majewski had the only multi-hit game for the RoughRiders with a pair of singles. For Lemon, it was his first home run in 346 at-bats as Gentry provided the other RBI for the RoughRiders.
The RoughRiders have dropped two straight in Corpus Christi with game three of the series Sunday at 6:05 from Whataburger Field.
