Lance Berkman to rehab in Frisco

Rangers DH expected to play for 'Riders Tuesday & Wednesday

FRISCO, TEXAS (AUGUST 13, 2013) - The Texas Rangers have transferred designated hitter Lance Berkman to Frisco to continue his rehab assignment. The 15-year big leaguer is expected to serve as the DH for the 'Riders on Tuesday and Wednesday when the team hosts the Springfield Cardinals at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Berkman is rehabbing from inflammation in his left hip.

The RoughRiders are beginning a six-game home stand, beginning with three games against the Springfield Cardinals starting on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Tickets remain for all six games and may be purchased at the Dr Pepper Ballpark box office, at www.RidersBaseball.com or by calling (972) 731-9200. Tuesday though Saturday's games begin at 7:05 p.m., while Sunday's contest against the Tulsa Drillers is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

Berkman, 37, is in his first season in the Texas organization. In 68 games with Rangers, the Houston, Texas native is batting .254 with ten doubles, a triple and six home runs to go along with 34 RBI. Placed on the disabled list on July 7, he began a rehab assignment with the Round Rock Express on Saturday going 3-for-7 with a home run and two RBI serving as the DH on consecutive nights. In the upcoming series, Berkman will square off against one his former organizations, the St. Louis Cardinals. The six-time major league All-Star spent 2011 and 2012 with St. Louis, winning a World Series title in 2011 as a teammate of current RoughRiders pitcher Kyle McClellan. Berkman never played for the Springfield Cardinals, but he did rehab with St. Louis' Triple-A affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds, for six games in 2012.
