Martinez, Williams & McMahon honored by TL

Texas League Post-Season All-Star Team Revealed

FRISCO, TEXAS (AUGUST 27, 2014) - The Texas League announced the 2015 Post-Season All-Star Team on Thursday and two Frisco RoughRiders were selected to the year-end squad. Former Rider Nick Williams was named a starting outfielder and closer David Martinez earned one of nine pitcher spots. Additionally, the team is proud to announce that Eric McMahon has been named the league's "Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year." McMahon was bestowed with the same honor in both 2012 and 2014, making him a three-time winner.

Martinez, 28, owns 21 saves and a 2.90 ERA in 39 games for the RoughRiders this year. He's allowed just 16 earned runs in 49 2/3 innings and struck out 40 compared to 14 walks. The right-hander is in his first season with the Rangers organization after spending ten seasons in the Houston Astros farm system. Martinez pitched in seven big-league games for the Astros across the 2013-14 seasons. The hard-throwing Venezuelan is currently third on the Riders' all-time season saves list behind Spike Lundberg (31) and Jesse Ingram (26). The All-Star nomination is Martinez's fourth of his career, as he was also chosen as a Mid-Season All-Star this season. In 2013, he was named the TL Pitcher of the Year while playing for Corpus Christi.

Williams, 21, played in 97 games with Frisco prior to a July trade that sent him to the Phillies organization in exchange for Cole Hamels. At the time of the trade, he led the team in batting (.299), extra base hits (38), OPS (.836), and was second in runs scored (56) and home runs (13). His 181 total bases ranked second in the Texas League. He played in the Mid-Season All-Star Game in Corpus Christi this season and also participated for Team USA in the Sirius XM Futures Game in Cincinnati. The fourth-year pro is now a five-time All-Star; he was also selected as Post-Season All-Star in the Carolina League (2014 - also a Mid-Season All-Star) and the South Atlantic League (2013). Williams was chosen as the Texas League's Player of the Week on July 27.

McMahon receives the award for Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year from of the Professional Baseball Strength & Conditioning Coaches Society (PBSCCS). The award is voted on by all of the strength & conditioning coaches in the Texas League, and McMahon was recognized as the Texas League's best for the third time in the past four years. He is finishing his fifth season with the RoughRiders in his current capacity and his seventh in the Rangers organization. He previously served in the same role for two seasons with the club's Advanced-A affiliate at the time in Bakersfield, California and spent two seasons prior to that in the Brewers organization. A native of Vermont, McMahon is a graduate of St. Lawrence University and Springfield College, where he earned his M.Ed. in Exercise Science. 

"It is a great honor to be recognized by my peers," McMahon said. "Most of what we do is behind the scenes before the game starts, early in the day. It helps to have a great staff and hard-working players. They make it fun to come to the ballpark every day."

McMahon's hard work is evident on a roster that has seen 67 different players wear a RoughRiders' uniform this season.

The RoughRiders continue their home stand tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the San Antonio Missions (San Diego Padres).
