Extension keeps Rangers affiliation through 2018
September 14, 2012
FRISCO, TEXAS (SEPTEMBER 14, 2012) - On Friday, the Frisco RoughRiders announced a four-year extension of the organization's player development contract with the Texas Rangers. The extension keeps the RoughRiders as the Rangers' Double-A affiliate though the 2018 season.

"We're thrilled to continue our partnership with the Rangers for the next six years," said RoughRiders President Scott Sonju. "RoughRiders fans are of course Rangers fans and we look forward to seeing the future of the Rangers as they come through Frisco."

The Rangers are the only organization that the RoughRiders have been affiliated with since the team was established in 2003. In ten seasons, Frisco has qualified for the playoffs seven times and won the Texas League championship in 2004. Since 2003, the 'Riders own the most regular season wins (765) and highest winning percentage (.540) of any Texas League team. The RoughRiders have sent 107 players to Major League Baseball in ten years, including three (Justin Grimm, Mike Olt and Jurickson Profar, respectively) that went directly from Frisco to the Rangers this season.

"The Rangers are very excited to extend the tremendous working relationship that we have with the Frisco RoughRiders through the 2018 season," said Tim Purpura, Rangers Senior Director of Player Development. "The owners, Mandalay Baseball, as well as the very talented management team in Frisco have given us an outstanding venue in which to develop players as well as providing affordable family entertainment to its loyal fan base. We look forward to continued success with our partners at Mandalay Baseball and the Frisco RoughRiders."

Fans have flocked to Dr Pepper Ballpark since it opened, with well over five million fans attending RoughRiders games in ten regular seasons. Frisco has led all Double-A teams in attendance in each of the last eight years, including this past season. In 2008, Ballpark Digest named the RoughRiders its "Organization of the Year."

The RoughRiders' quest for a second Texas League crown continues on Friday as the team plays the Springfield Cardinals in Game 3 of the Texas League Championship Series in a 7 p.m. start at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Frisco trails in the series 2-0 and tickets for this weekend's games are still available.
