Augusta, GA-The Asheville Tourists offense returned to early series form in the eighth inning Monday night and turned what was looking like a close pitcher's duel into a 7-1 rout of the GreenJackets at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
With two outs in the top of the inning and the game tied at one, Jose Gomez singled to right field. Willie Abreu drove him in with a double to put the Tourists up 2-1. Abreu's double ended the night for GreenJackets starter Raffi Vizcaino. Vizcaino lasted seven and a third innings and allowed three runs off of five hits and struck out five. He was perfect in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
Bobby Wernes greeted reliever Greg Brody with a double, scoring Abreu and extending Asheville's lead to 3-1. Tyler Nevin then reached on a throwing error by third baseman Cristian Paulino which allowed Wernes to score making it 4-1. Max George singled home Nevin to make it 5-1 Tourists. The Tourists added some insurance runs in the ninth when Abreu hit a two run home run which made it 7-1 Asheville.
Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, Will Albertson led off with a single for the GreenJackets. Cristian Paulino's sacrifice bunt put him on second. Ashford Fulmer hit a single to score Albertson and tie the game at one.
