Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (35-40) lost both games Wednesday afternoon against the Rome Braves (24-51). The first game was a continuation from Tuesday night's game which was suspended due to heavy rain and lightning.
After leading 2-0 on Tuesday, the GreenJackets continued to score in the fifth when Chris Lofton doubled to left-center field and put the GreenJackets ahead 3-0.
Rome answered in the seventh inning by scoring six runs. After back to back singles, Carlos Sanchez reached on a fielder's choice which drove in the team's first run. A wild pitch drove in the second run for the Braves. A triple by Blake Brown scored the team's third run which was immediately followed by a sacrifice fly by Connor Oliver which drove in the team's fourth run. On a 1-2 pitch, Ross Wilson drove in the final two runs with a two run home run.
GreenJackets designated hitter, Jeremy Sy, scored the GreenJackets final run in the eighth inning. On a 1-1 pitch, Sy hit a solo home run to left field. The GreenJackets lost 6-4.
In Game two of the double header, the Rome Braves shut down the Augusta GreenJackets and won 4-0. The Braves scored their first two runs on ground outs in the first and second inning. Victor Caratini hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to extend the Braves lead 3-0. In the seventh, Blake Brown hit a solo home run to left field on a 3-2 count.
The GreenJackets conclude their series against the Braves on Thursday, June 26. It's Thirsty Thursday presented by Country Club Dance Hall and Saloon and Hooters.
