Greenville Shuts Down GreenJackets With Pitching

GreenJackets Offense Struggles in Loss
August 25, 2017

[Empty Body]

Augusta, GA-The Greenville Drive scored three runs in the top of the first inning Friday night. It was all they would need as they defeated the GreenJackets 3-1 at Lake Olmstead Stadium. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the GreenJackets who are now mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
The Drive began to jump on the GreenJackets when Brett Netzer drew a one out walk in the first. Bobby Dalbec and Tyler Hill followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Ryan Scott then doubled home Netzer and Dalbec to put the Drive on the board. Jerry Downs followed with a sacrifice fly to score Hill making it 3-0.
The big first inning for the Drive spoiled what was otherwise a solid start for Raffi Vizcaino. He settled down and did not allow any more runs through the sixth inning. He only gave up six hits and recorded eleven strikeouts. Melvin Adon came out of the bullpen and struck out five in two shutout innings of relief work. Nolan Riggs then pitched a scoreless ninth to keep the GreenJackets within striking distance.
For the Drive, Hildemaro Requena shined to seven innings on the mound. He struck out four and gave up only one run off four hits. Juan Florentino came on in relief and pitched a pair of scoreless innings to complete the six out save.
The GreenJackets will be back in action Saturday night for game two of the three game series with the Drive. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm with the gates opening at 4:30pm. There will be a pre-game concert by Hilary Thompson as part of the Saturday Concert Series. It is 90's Night and Girl Scout Night. There will also be a post-game fireworks show presented by Leidos. Kids ages twelve and under will be able to run the bases after the game.
Yordy Cabrera (1-2, 3.60) will start on the mound for the GreenJackets against Darwinzon Hernandez (3-4, 3.86) for the Drive.
