Augusta, GA-Cristian Paulino hit a walk off solo home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth to greet Greenville Drive reliever Stephen Nogosek. Paulino's home run gave the GreenJackets a 2-1 victory over the Drive Sunday evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium. With the win, the GreenJackets improved to 20-38 on the season and won their fifth game in their last six tries.
The two hour and ten minute contest was a pitcher's duel leading up to the walk off. GreenJackets starter Caleb Baragar went seven innings and allowed only one run off of four hits and struck out four. Reliever Jose Morel was solid out of the bullpen in shutting out the Drive in the eighth and ninth innings, striking out two.
For the Drive, starter Bryan Mata also gave up only one run off of four hits. He lasted six innings and also struck out four. Matthew Gorst shut out the GreenJackets in relief during the seventh and eighth innings. Like Morel, he also recorded two strikeouts.
The GreenJackets got on the board first when Jacob Heyward hit a double to lead off the bottom of the second. He came in to score on a double by Sandro Fabian to give the GreenJackets a 1-0 lead. The Drive answered in the top of the fourth when Santiago Espinal drew a leadoff walk. With two outs and Espinal on second, Chris Madera singled him home to tie the game at one.
The GreenJackets will be back in action Monday night for the final game of the four game series with the Drive. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm with the gates opening at 6:00pm. It is Sundae Monday featuring an Ultimate Ice Cream Sundae Bar as part of Feed Your Face Monday presented by WRDW News 12 WAGT 26.
Stephen Woods Jr. (3-5, 3.86) will start on the mound for the GreenJackets against Darwinzon Hernandez (2-1, 3.10) for the Drive.
