McCabe Goes Yard as Stripers Take Second Straight in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – David McCabe broke a 1-1 tie with a solo home run in the top of the third inning and the Gwinnett Stripers (26-27, 64-63) never trailed after, beating the Louisville Bats (18-35, 57-69) 5-2 on Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field. Gwinnett leads the series 2-0.

Decisive Plays: The Stripers grabbed a 1-0 lead two batters into the game as Patrick Clohisy singled, stole second, and scored on a single up the middle by Jim Jarvis. Louisville quickly tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Noelvi Marte. In the third, McCabe put Gwinnett back in front with a solo home run (2) into the left field seats. That lead increased to 4-1 in the sixth on an RBI single by Lizandro Espinoza, who then scored on an error. Louisville trimmed it to 4-2 in the eighth, but the Stripers got that run back in the ninth on an RBI single by McCabe.

Key Contributors: McCabe (3-for-5, homer, 2 RBIs), Clohisy (2-for-5, run, steal), and Chuckie Robinson (3-for-4, double) all had multi-hit games for Gwinnett. Starter Brett Sears held Louisville to one run over 4.2 innings (4 H, 3 BB, 6 SO). Relievers Elieser Hernandez (W, 2-5), Blake Burkhalter (H, 2), and Tyler Uberstine (S, 3) combined to allow one run on two hits over the final 4.1 innings. For Louisville, Marte went 1-for-4 with an RBI and Chase Solesky threw 3.0 scoreless innings in relief.

Noteworthy: The first-inning RBI single by Jarvis extended his on-base streak to 23 games, second longest by a Striper this season (Jarvis also reached in 23-straight from March 27-April 24). McCabe is now batting .471 with four extra-base hits and nine RBIs in five games since joining Gwinnett on August 21.
