Sens Clip 'Ducks 5-2

The Harrisburg Senators downed the Akron RubberDucks 5-2 Tuesday night at FNB Field. The Senators capitalized on four Akron errors and earned the series win. 

Ryan Zimmerman opened the scoring in the opening frame when he hit the first pitch of the at-bat from Akron starter Matt Whitehouse deep over the left field fence, a 408 foot blast to put the Senators ahead 1-0. 
The Senators added a run in the fourth. With runners at first and second and Osvaldo Abreu at the plate, Whitehouse threw a wild pitch and in an attempt to throw out Jake Noll running to third on the play, Whitehouse threw the ball past third baseman Joe Sever which allowed Noll to score.   
Akron scored their only two runs in the fifth on a Ka'ai Tom leadoff home run and Tyler Krieger run-scoring double which tied the game. 
The Senators quickly retook the lead in the bottom of the frame. Hunter Jones led off the inning with a triple and scored when Raudy Read hit a sacrifice fly into center as the Senators jumped ahead 3-2.
The RubberDucks loaded the bases with nobody out in the seventh, but Senators reliever James Bourque retired Bobby Bradley on a shallow flyball to center and recorded back-to-back strikeouts to keep the 'Ducks off the board.
The Senators tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when Read hit into a run scoring groundout with the bases loaded, and they plated their final run in the eighth when Jones singled in Alec Keller. 
Senators reliever Roman Mendez finished the game with two scoreless innings to seal the 5-2 win and notch his eighth save.
Senators starter Logan Darnell (6-4) earned the win after allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four in five innings. Akron reliever Mitch Brown (1-5) took the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run in the fifth, one of his two innings of work. 
"It was a nice win. Good team effort. We did a nice job closing this one out," Senators manager Matt LeCroy said. "This was a big win, to win the series. Now we have to come out tomorrow and go for the sweep."
Zimmerman finished 1-3 with a home run, walk and an RBI in his first rehab game with the Senators. 
"He had a lot of life and good at-bats. He moved down the line really well and made a nice play at first," LeCroy said. "He's getting close."
The Senators try for the series sweep in the homestand finale Wednesday afternoon. Sterling Sharp starts for the Senators against Akron starter Aaron Civale. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at FNB Field.
