Wappingers Falls, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2023) —The Greenville Drive shut out the Hudson Valley Renegades 2-0 in Game 1 of the South Atlantic Championship Series on Sunday afternoon at Heritage Financial Park. The Drive took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
Both sides received strong starts from their starting pitchers with Jackson Fristoe tossing four scoreless innings in his High-A debut. The right-hander only had to work through one jam – in the fourth inning after two singles and a fielder’s choice loaded the bases with two outs. Kristian Campbell grounded out to leave the bases loaded.
The Drive plated the game’s first runs in the top of the sixth. After Baron Stuart (0-1) tossed a scoreless fifth inning, he walked the bases loaded in the sixth. Sebastian Keane entered and walked Ronald Rosario and Kristian Campbell to score Allan Castro and Bryan Gonzalez to give Greenville a 2-0 lead.
Luis Perales (1-0) stifled the Hudson Valley offense, allowing just two walks and a hit across six innings. The ‘Gades best offensive chance came in the ninth after Felix Cepeda hit Ben Cowles to begin the inning. After Jared Serna singled to left field to place two runners on with no outs, but Christopher Familia hit into a double play and Jesus Rodriguez flied out to end the contest.
Osiel Rodriguez and Luis Arejula combined to toss three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to close out the contest for Hudson Valley.
The Renegades and Drive travel to Greenville for Game 2 of the Championship Series on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 6:45 p.m. Hudson Valley sends RHP Cam Schlittler (1-0, 4.76) to the hill opposite of LHP Dalton Rogers (2-6, 5.52) for Greenville.
