Renegades Roll to 13-1 Win Over BlueClaws on Tuesday Night at ShoreTown Ballpark. 

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Grant Richardson had four hits and Ben Cowles had three including a home run as Hudson Valley stormed to a series-opening 13-1 win over the BlueClaws on Tuesday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

The Renegades (30-22) opened a 2.5 game lead on the BlueClaws (27-24) with the series-opening victory.

Hudson Valley got three runs in the second inning on a three run double from Marcos Cabrera cleared the bases. They added a run in the third on a throwing error from second baseman Freylin Minyety.

They added two more in the fourth, one on a balk, and another on an RBI single from Spencer Jones.

Starter Jon Duplantier (0-1) was charged with five runs, four earned, in 3.1 innings and took the loss.

Ben Cowles homered off Jordi Martinez to extend the lead to 7-1 in the eighth inning. It was Cowles' sixth home run of the season.

The Renegades added six more runs in the ninth inning, all charged to Matt Russell. Marcos Cabrera and Alexander Vargas each had a two run doubles while Andrick Nava got the last out of the inning. Nava, a catcher, has pitched in two games on the current homestand after throwing a scoreless inning last Tuesday .

Nick Ward was on base four times in the game, getting hit by three pitches and singling. He is the first BlueClaw since 2005 to be hit by three pitches in a game. Rixon Wingrove was hit by two, and it was the first time the BlueClaws have been hit by five in single game.

The 13-1 loss was the largest loss of the season by the BlueClaws, who gave up 13 runs for the second time this season after they did so in the home opening loss to Greensboro.

The teams continue their series tomorrow at 7:05 pm.
