JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Let's check out some news and notes from the first minor league spring training games held this week in Florida, featuring several former and future BlueClaws!

Monday, March 9th vs Yankees

Game One

  • OF Devin Saltiban (2025) went 2-5 with a double and an RBI.
  • 3B Nick Biddison (2025) went 2-4 with a double and an RBI.
  • LF Joel Dragoo (2025) went 2-3 with a double and two RBIs.
  • RHP Braydon Tucker (2024-25) threw two scoreless innings while Titan Kennedy-Hayes (2025) threw one and Jake Eddington (2024-25) threw one, striking out all four batters he faced (they let him face an extra batter after recording the first three outs).

Game Two

  • OF Raylin Heredia (2025) went 2-5 with two doubles.
  • 3B Brady Day had a double and a walk.
  • C Kodey Shojinaga (2025) went 1-3 with an RBI and a double.
  • C Nikau Pouaka-Grego (2025), who moves behind the plate this year, had two walks in three plate appearances.
  • 1B Brock Vradenburg (2025) went 2-5.
  • 2B Jose Colmenares (2025) went 1-3 with a walk and an RBI, plus three stolen bases. Colmenares signed with the Phillies in August and played the last month of the season with the BlueClaws.
  • C/DH Will Vierling homered. Vierling was an 11th round pick of the Phillies last year from Murray State and is the cousin of Matt Vierling, who played for the BlueClaws in his draft year of 2018 and is now with the Tigers.
  • RHP Sam Highfill (2025) threw two scoreless innings. Highfill was the final South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week last year after throwing six scoreless innings in his final start of the season with the BlueClaws.
  • RHP Giussepe Velasquez retired all six batters he faced on just 16 pitches.

Game Three

  • 3B Logan Dawson, drafted last year out of Eastern HS in Voorhees, had a double.
  • 1B Raider Tello had a double and two RBIs.
  • CF Carter Mathison had two hits and two RBIs.
  • RHP Gage Wood, the Phillies first-round pick last year from Arkansas, threw two innings, striking out five of the nine batters he faced, while walking one.
  • RHP Codey Bowker, the Phillies third-round pick last year from Vanderbilt, threw two scoreless innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
  • RHP Cole Gilley, the Phillies 10th-round pick last year from Indiana, threw a scoreless innings, striking out three of the five batters he faced.
  • RHP Keegan Batka, an NDFA last year from Davenport University, threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Tuesday, March 10th vs Yankees

Game One

  • CF John Spikerman (2025) drew two walks in five plate appearances.
  • 1B Bryson Ware (2024-25) had two hits.
  • 2B Nick Biddison (2025) drew four walks (which has only been one by a BlueClaws player seven times (Luke Davis did it in April last year).

Game Two

  • 3B Raider Tello had the game's lone extra-base hit, a solo home run in the seventh inning. Tello played at Iowa and spent last year with Clearwater.
  • RHP Brian Walters, an 8th round pick last year out of Miami, started and threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
  • RHP Peyton Havard, signed last year out of Lamar, struck out three over his two innings.
  • RHP Matt Potok of Jackson Memorial High School (and Coastal Carolina) threw two perfect innings with two strikeouts.

Game Three

  • 1B Alirio Ferrebus had two hits, a home run, and four RBIs in the 12-8 win. The 20 year old split last year between the FCL Phillies and Clearwater.
  • 3B Cesar Mujica and LF Jack Barker each had doubles.
  • RHP Brad Pacheco threw two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
  • LHP Angel Lirzano struck out three over his two innings while RHP Marty Gair had a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.
