Gowdy Sharp; Two Claws Homers in Tuesday Win

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Kevin Gowdy threw six scoreless innings while Logan O'Hoppe and DJ Stewart each homered as the BlueClaws bested Wilmington 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park.

The BlueClaws (23-31) opened the seven game series with the Blue Rocks (23-30) with their seventh shutout of the season.

Vito Friscia smashed a two-run double to right-centerfield in the first inning to put the BlueClaws up 2-0. Jonathan Guzman followed with an RBI single and the BlueClaws scored three times in the inning from two out and nobody on base.

Then in the fourth, the BlueClaws added three more runs. Casey Martin hit an RBI double on an 0-2 pitch. Then Logan O'Hoppe lined a two-run home run onto the berm for his seventh home run of the season.

Meanwhile, Gowdy threw six scoreless innings for the second time in his last three starts. The right-hander from Santa Barbara improved to 3-3 on the season in earning the win. He struck out six and walked just one.

JP Woodward got the next six outs while Carlos Francisco threw a scoreless ninth inning to close it out.

Jhailyn Ortiz and Keaton Greenwalt each had two hits for the BlueClaws while Logan O'Hoppe and Vito Friscia each drove in two runs.

Joan Adon (3-3) took the loss, allowing six runs in four innings.

The BlueClaws and Blue Rocks play a double-header on Wednesday beginning at 5:05 pm.
