Yankees Catcher Francisco Cervelli To Rehab Starting Wednesday

June 10, 2014

Former Thunder standout and 7 year MLB veteran Francisco Cervelli of the NY Yankees is expected to participate in a rehabilitation assignment for the Thunder starting Wednesday, June 11.

Cervelli is recovering from a strained hamstring suffered on April 13 against Boston. The veteran catcher played in just five games for New York this season before the injury. He has already played in five rehab games (with Single A Tampa 6/5-6/6 and with Scranton 6/8-6/10).

Cervelli played for the Thunder in 2008 (21 games, .315 average) and 2009 (16 games, .190 average). He made his Major League debut for the Yankees in September 2008 and was a member of the Yankees 2009 World Series Championship team.

Cervelli will be the fourth Yankee to play in a rehab game with the Thunder this year joining Brendan Ryan (5/2-5/4), Bruce Billings (5/15) and Shawn Kelley (6/7). He will also be the thirteenth former Thunder player to return to Trenton on a Yankees rehab assignment. He will be the 42nd different member of the Yankees to play for the Thunder on rehab assignment since the two teams became affiliates in 2003.

Wednesday's game against the Richmond Flying Squirrels (SF Giants) will feature a Thunder Catcher's Helmet Coin Bank giveaway thanks to TD Bank for the first 1,000 fans ages 6 and older. Game time is 7:05pm with gates opening for all fans at 6:05pm. TICKETS

Thursday's game will include post-game fireworks thanks to the Burlington County Times and Thirsty Thursday beer specials presented by Budweiser. The Thunder and Flying Squirrels contest is slated to begin at 7:05pm. TICKETS

Tickets are available at trentonthunder.com or by calling 609-394-3300.
