LOUISVILLE, KY – Reiver Sanmartin whiffed six in his Triple-A debut, Mike Freeman homered and four relievers combined to kept the Mud Hens at bay as the Louisville Bats downed Toledo 6-4 Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

[BOX SCORE]

The win gives Louisville back-to-back victories for the first time in the 2021 season.

Just hours after former Bats starter Vladimir Gutierrez made his MLB debut for the Cincinnati Reds, lefty Sanmartin made his first appearance at the Triple-A level with Louisville. The hurler filled in nicely, recording six of his 12 outs via strikeout over his 4.0 innings of work. He was touched for three earned runs on a pair of singles in the fourth inning and an RBI double later in the frame by Daz Cameron.

The Bats struck early with five runs of their own over the first two innings. Brantley Bell and Cheslor Cuthbert singled to open the first and Nicky Delmonico brought each home with a roller that snuck through to right field. Beau Taylor then walked to lead off the second, and following a second straight single from Bell, Freeman crushed a pitch over the right field wall for a three-run home run.

Delmonico added a second knock with an RBI double in the fourth. The two hits extended his on-base streak to a Louisville team-high 15 straight games dating back to May 8.

Brandon Finnegan (2.0ip), Phillip Diehl (1.0ip), Josh Osich (1.0ip) and Carson Fulmer (1.0ip) two-hit the Mud Hens over 5.0 scoreless inning of relief.

Louisville and Toledo continue their six-game series Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field at 7 p.m. Bats ace Tony Santillan (1-1, 1.86) toes the slab against RHP Drew Hutchison (0-2, 4.26).
