MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (July 4, 2016) - Former Myrtle Beach Pelicans infielder Ian Happ has been named the Chicago Cubs' Minor League Player of the Month for June, the organization announced Monday. Happ is the second Pelican to take home a monthly award in 2016.

Happ hit .361/.461/.607 with seven doubles, one triples, two home runs and 15 RBIs in 19 games with Myrtle Beach in June. He was the lone position player to represent the Pelicans in the California-Carolina League All-Star Game on June 21 in Lake Elsinore, Calif.

Ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the Cubs' organization and No. 66 in baseball by MLB.com, Happ was named the Carolina League's Player of the Week for June 13-19, going 13-for-25 in seven games during the week, batting .520/.571/.960 with six doubles, a triple, homer and six RBIs. He recorded five multi-hit performances, including four in a row to close the week.

The Pittsburgh native was promoted to Double-A Tennessee on June 23. He reached base in 14 of his last 16 games with the Pelicans, slashing .385/.500/.673 with seven doubles, one triple, two home runs, 11 RBIs and 12 walks during that span. Happ batted .296/.410/.475 with 16 doubles, three triples, seven dingers and 42 RBIs with Myrtle Beach this season. He swiped 10 bases in 13 attempts, and also won Carolina League Player of the Week for April 18-24

Chicago's first-round pick, ninth overall, out of Cincinnati in 2015, is batting .441/.462/.676 in his first 10 games with the Smokies, smashing two doubles and two home runs while knocking in eight runs. He has also stolen two bases in as many attempts.

Happ joins Pelicans right-hander Trevor Clifton in taking home a Cubs' monthly honor in 2016. Clifton earned Chicago's Minor League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

Myrtle Beach begins an eight-game road trip Monday by playing their first of four contests with a 7 p.m. first pitch at Winston-Salem.
