BOX SCORE

(Binghamton, NY) - Despite a strong start on both sides, the Reading Fightin Phils (7-20) fell to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (17-11), 6-5, in the second walk-off win for the Rumble Ponies of the series.

Jean Cabrera’s strong start to the game gave Reading time to settle in and take the early lead. In his first three innings, Cabrera struck out six and did not allow a single run. This put the Fightin Phils in a comfortable position entering the third inning.

Reading took the lead in the top of the third when Cade Fergus first got on base after a hit by pitch. Andrick Nava came in with a single and Robert Moore followed with an RBI double that scored Fergus. Nava advanced to third and, with Moore on second, Aidan Miller stepped up and hit a three-run home run, putting the Fightin Phils up 4-0.

Cabrera ended his night by striking out eight, walked two and only allowed four hits over six scoreless innings. Tommy McCollum stepped onto the mound in the bottom of the seventh for Cabrera. Matt O’Neill hit a solo home-run for Binghamton, and closed the gap slightly, making it 4-1.

The Rumble Ponies tied it up in the bottom of the eighth which began with a walk from Jett Williams. Nick Morabito reached first on a throwing error from pitcher Jack Dallas and Williams advanced to third. Ryan Clifford hit a three-run home run and the score read 4-4. Binghamton went on to take the lead after JT Schwartz followed with a solo home run of his own and the Rumble Ponies led 5-4 by the end of the eighth.

Reading did not allow Binghamton to hold onto the lead for long as Robert Moore stepped up and hit a lead-off home run in the top of the ninth.

Heading into the bottom of the ninth all tied up, Andrew Schultz (L, 0-1) entered and walked the first three up to bat and loaded the bases. Shultz went on to strike out the next two Rumble Ponies. Nick Lorusso stepped up and reached on a fielding error by Cade Fergus which allowed Travis Swaggerty to score and the Rumble Ponies won 6-5. Ryan Lambert (W, 1-0) walked away with the win for the night.
