The Reading Fightin Phils would like to congratulate JoJo Romero on his big-league call up on Friday, August 21st. The lefty came in for the ninth inning against the Atlanta Braves as struck out all three batters.

Romero was a highlight in a Phillies 11-2 loss. Originally, he was promoted as the 29th man for the Phillies doubleheader on Thursday, but did not make his debut until the following evening.

In 2018 and 2019, Romero played for the R-Phils. Last season he started eleven games in Reading to record a 4.84 ERA. In 57.2 innings, he notched 52 strikeouts to his twelve walks and only gave up four homers. Romero also spent time in AAA with Lehigh Valley.

The 23-year-old played for the University of Nevada and Yavapai College before being drafted in the fourth round back in 2016.

The Phillies have recently been calling up top prospects to assist them in this shortened season. Romero got off to a perfect start, closing out the ninth inning on twelve pitches. He will stay as a relief man for Philadelphia most likely taking on longer outings.
