(Reading, PA) - The Reading Fightin Phils (5-8) fell to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (5-6) 6-5 in the fourth game of the series.

Binghamton got on the board first in the top of the third inning. Jett Willams walked after his time at bat. Francisco Alvarez made it to first base off a fielding error from Griff McGarry. Nick Morabito came in and lined out to left field. Nick Lorusso doubled on a line drive to center field that got both Williams and Alvarez home and the Rumble Ponies took the lead 2-0.

The Rumble Ponies added to their lead in the top of the fifth starting with Nick Morabito who singled off a soft bunt. Travis Kuhn, who came in for Griff McGarry, went on to walk both Ryan Clifford and Nick Lorusso and the bases were loaded. Travis Swaggerty walked and Ryan Clifford scored. Alex Ramirez singled on a line drive to right field and both Clifford and Lorusso got home, making it 5-0.

Binghamton extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning beginning with a triple from Jett Williams. Francisco Alvarez was up and, on a balk, Williams scored and made it 6-0.

Reading got themselves on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Cole Roberts first came in and singled on a ground ball to center field. Keaton Anthony doubled on a line drive to right field. Luis Verdugo doubled on a fly ball and both Roberts and Anthony scored, which brought it 6-2.

Reading cut Binghamton’s lead in half in the bottom of the eighth as Elio Prado reached first base on a throwing error from first baseman Ryan Clifford. Aidan Miller walked and Prado advanced to second. Keaton Anthony grounded out and put Prado at third and Miller at second. A passed ball by Binghamton’s catcher allowed Prado to get home and the score read 6-3 by the end of the eighth inning.

With one final push, Jordan Dissin singled in the bottom of the ninth. Dissin advanced on a balk and Cade Fergus came in and hit a two-run home run, getting the game within one 6-5.

Reading’s late runs were not quite enough and Binghamton took the game 6-5. Cameron Foster (W, 1-0) came away with the win.

The Fightin Phils return to the field on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. RHP Gabe Mosser will start for Reading, and he will go opposite RHP Nolan McLean for Binghamton. Saturday will be the first fireworks show of the season, thanks to PA Virtual Charter School, Crime Alert Berks County and Penn Medicine Transplant Institute. The series ends Sunday when the first 1,500 kids get a Reading Hot Dogs Replica Jersey, presented by GT Church.
