Phillies Legend Charlie Manuel to Appear at Fightin Cancer Night June 26

(Reading, PA) - Former Philadelphia Phillies Manager, and 2008 World Series Champion, Charlie Manuel will join the Fightin Phils at the annual Fightin Cancer Night on Wednesday, June 26. The R-Phils will welcome the Bowie Baysox (Orioles) that evening at 7 p.m.

In addition to Manuel's appearance, he will also have a free photo session for all fans. Tickets to the game on June 26 can be purchased HERE.

Manuel was hired by the Phillies as their manager before the 2005 season. After narrowly missing the postseason in his first two seasons, he broke through with a National League East Championship in 2007. The following season, he led the Phillies to their second World Series Championship, and first since 1980.

His tenure with the Phillies featured five-straight NL East titles, two World Series appearances, and many more accolades. Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins each captured MVP Awards, and Roy Halladay won a Cy Young under Manuel's leadership. After his time as the manager of the Phillies, Manuel was selected to the team's Wall of Fame in 2014. He returned to the Phillies for a brief stint as the team's hitting coach to conclude the 2019 season.

Manuel has remained involved with the Phillies organization since his time managing. He has made multiple appearances in Baseballtown and has been seen around the Phillies over the past 10 years. Manuel suffered a stroke in September of 2023 and has been an incredible inspiration on his road to recovery and the R-Phils cannot wait to welcome him back to Reading on June 26 for Fightin Cancer Night.

The Cancer Awareness jerseys the R-Phils will wear on June 26th will recognize all forms of cancer that individuals battle. The FIRST 25 families and friends that purchase 20 or more tickets for reserved seating or a picnic area for the June 26th game will have the opportunity to have a loved one represented during the game for no additional charge. The specialty jerseys will be personalized with the honoree’s name on the back. Players will receive a photo and bio of the honoree they are representing on the field. A special post-game jersey ceremony will take place with the 25 jersey honorees receiving their game-worn jerseys on the field. If the honoree is present, they will receive the jersey. If the honoree has passed, the family will receive the jersey.

The Reading Fightin Phils return to FirstEnergy Stadium on Tuesday, April 9, to open the 2024 season against the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox).
