Reading Welcomes Akron for Six-Game Series

Phillies and Guardians Affiliates Square Off in Baseballtown

(Reading, PA) - The Reading Fightin Phils, Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, return to FirstEnergy Stadium on Tuesday, August 12 as they kick off their series against the Akron RubberDucks, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, after two back-to-back road weeks. (Reading, PA) - The Reading Fightin Phils, Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, return to FirstEnergy Stadium on Tuesday, August 12 as they kick off their series against the Akron RubberDucks, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, after two back-to-back road weeks. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, leading off the six-game series. This series marks the first and only matchup between the two teams this season.

To get things started, the first 2,000 adults to the game on Tuesday will receive a Fightin Phils Replica Home Jersey thanks to FirstEnergy Stadium. Wednesday’s game will finish up with fireworks courtesy of the Beneficial Society Victor Emmanuel II. Thursday is Malmo Oat Milkers Night, topped off with fireworks thanks to Riverfront Federal Credit Union. Fiesta Friday continues on the 15th with fireworks sponsored by PSECU. Saturday is the 27th Annual Harley Night with the first 2,000 adults, 18+, receiving a Harley Game Cap thanks to Classic Harley-Davidson. The Phillie Phanatic returns to Baseballtown to help us wrap up the series on Sunday thanks to Penn State Health St. Joseph.

The Fightin Phils are coming off a successful 5-1 series win against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Reading fell to New Hampshire in the first game of the series but then proceeded to sweep the remaining five, earning their most wins in a series so far this season. Aidan Miller was named Eastern League Player of the Week after his performance during the series, slashing 385/.469/.692 with 10 runs, five doubles, a home run and four RBI. The week prior, Reading faced the Hartford Yard Goats, Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, where they went 2-4 in the series.

The Akron RubberDucks are coming into Baseballtown after a two week homestand. They split their first series against the Erie Seawolves, Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, taking the first two games and the series finale. Their second home series was against the Chesapeake Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, where they took the series 5-1. They fell to the Baysox in the series finale as Chesapeake narrowly avoided the series sweep. Akron currently sits in third in the Eastern League Southwest, going 19-20 so far this second half and 62-45 overall.

Top 30 Guardians prospects include: infielder Travis Bazzana, infielder Angel Genao, catcher Cooper Ingle, RHP Khal Stephen and outfielder Alfonsin Rosario. Travis Bazzana is listed as the No. 1 prospect overall for the Cleveland Guardians.

RHP Wil Crowe is set to kick things off on the mound against RHP Trent Denholm on Tuesday. RHP Griff McGarry faces RHP Rorik Maltrud on Wednesday. Thursday features RHP Estibenzon Jimenez versus LHP Rodney Boone. RHP Chuck King takes the mound on Friday against RHP Yorman Gomez. RHP Jean Cabrera is currently set for Saturday going opposite RHP Dylan DeLucia. To close the series out on Sunday, RHP Wil Crowe will face RHP Trent Denholm.
