SOS: Fightin Phils to Play as "Cream Chip Beef" for 21st Morning Game

(Reading, PA) - On Tuesday, July 30, the Reading Fightin Phils will pay homage to a regional staple and play as the "Cream Chip Beef." It will be Reading's 21st Annual Morning Game, with first pitch set for 11 a.m. for the contest with the Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies) at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The Fightin Phils will wear a special Cream Chip Beef jersey and hat. Additionally, the first 2,000 adults will receive a Cream Chip Beef hat, thanks to Reading Hospital Tower Health. Fans can also purchase New Era ON-FIELD Cream Chip Beef hats from the team store starting now, while supplies last.
The history of Cream Chip Beef goes back to the World War Two days. S.O.S. became a popular saying amongst soldiers during the war. It referred to "Cream Chip Beef on toast," a dish featured in Army Cookbooks for over 100 years. Cream Chip Beef has been a breakfast staple in the Northeastern United States since the 19th Century. Over time, the popularity has grown throughout the Mid-Atlantic, especially in Pennsylvania. Many restaurants and diners in Berks County continue to offer Cream Chip Beef on its menus.
Gates for the game will open at 9 a.m. and fans can join in a Brunch Boozefest, which will include a beer, wine and seltzer tasting on the deck, thanks to the R-Phils Craft Beer, Wine and Seltzer Partners, along with Classic Harley-Davidson. Purchasing tickets for the Boozefest will also include access to a two-and-a-half hour all-you-can-eat buffet. Tickets for Boozefest can be purchased by calling 610-370-BALL or by going HERE.
Additionally, fans can get $1 off beer both before and after the game and also enjoy a pre and post-game concert. As is a Morning Game tradition, all fans will have the opportunity to stroll around the warning track prior to the contest.

While individual game tickets go on sale at a later date, fans can purchase a General Admission 10 Pack, which includes 10 General Admission tickets to be used at any game, as well as two FREE Opening Night Tickets; all for just $70. Fans can also purchase a Mini Plan or Flex Bank for the 2024 season. Mini Plans start with as few as four games, and flex banks as little as 12 tickets.
