Leading up to the 2021 season, RenoAces.com will be taking a look at some of the faces fans may see at Greater Nevada Field this year! Today we take a look at pitcher Anthony Swarzak, who was signed by the Diamondbacks to a minor league contract in February.

Anthony Swarzak has accomplished a lot in his 10-year career. Since making his Major League debut in May of 2009, Swarzak has appeared in 375 games, starting 32 and eating up over 600 innings in the bigs.

Swarzak’s best year came in 2017, when he posted a 2.23 ERA in 41 games with the Chicago White Sox, and a 2.48 ERA in 29 games with the Milwaukee Brewers to combine for a 2.33 ERA on the season.

In 2019, Swarzak appeared in 59 MLB games with the Seattle Mariners and Atlanta Braves, posting a 4.56 ERA in 59 appearances.

Ahead of the ill-fated 2020 season, Swarzak signed to a minor league deal with Philadelphia and was assigned to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs before the minor league season was cancelled.

Before breaking into the league in 2009, Swarzak spent six seasons in the minors with eight teams, and owns a career 3.98 minor league ERA in 177 games. Versatility was his top attribute in the minors, winning 55 games (including a complete game shutout) and earning eight saves.

At 35 years old, Swarzak would bring an unparalleled level of professional experience to the Aces in 2021. Swarzak has appeared in 552 professional games, racking up a whopping 1,512.2 innings across relief appearances and 155 starts.
