Reno, Nev. – Following two wins in Las Vegas, the Reno Aces (2-0) kickoff their 2024 home schedule by facing the Sacramento River Cats (2-1), the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, beginning on Tuesday, April 2nd, with a six-game series.

The Aces took the series vs Sacramento in 2023, 15-9. The two clubs will face off this season 24 times, with 15 games played at Greater Nevada Field.

Sacramento travels over the Sierra Nevada Mountains after the team took two out of three games from Salt Lake City this past weekend. This series will be the River Cats' first road trip of the season.

The River Cats roster features two of the top three prospects within the San Francisco Giants organization: short-stop Marco Luciano and left-handed pitcher Carson Whisenhunt.

According to MLB Pipeline, Whisenhunt, the #80 overall prospect, is scheduled to throw for Sacramento this series. In 2023, the southpaw spent time in Single-A San Jose, High-A Eugene, and Double-A Richmond, where he went 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 58.2 innings pitched before being shut down with an elbow sprain in late July. The East Carolina alum made his first Triple-A appearance last weekend against Salt Lake City, allowing just one hit and registering six strikeouts in three innings.

Luciano, the #38 overall prospect and #2 in the San Francisco Giants system, will return to Greater Nevada Field this week. In 2023, he slashed .223/.334/.442 with 29 extra-base hits and 40 RBI with Richmond and Sacramento. He made his MLB debut on July 26th, 2023, and found his first MLB hit two days later.

The Aces enter the series against Sacramento following a dominant road trip in Las Vegas. Reno took the opening game, 4-2, featuring a set of home runs by Kyle Garlick and Jose Herrera, but later erupted for 15 runs in 17 hits in Sunday's series finale. The Aces offense went 29-for-72 (.372) with six home runs, while the pitching staff posted a 1.00 ERA.

Kyle Garlick looks to continue his hot start to 2024. The California native ranks in the top five in three offensive categories in the PCL. The 32-year-old is second in home runs (2) and extra-base hits (3) and is fourth in slugging percentage (1.111). He has a home run in each of the two games he has played in and counts on extending that streak against the River Cats.

Aces starter Blake Walston posted a 3.29 ERA in five starts against Sacramento in 2023, striking out 13 River Cats in 27.1 innings pitched. Expect him to take the mound in this series for the first time in 2024.

The six-game series begins with the Aces 2024 Home Opener at Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday at 2:05 p.m. PT.
