Aces fall 4-3 to Sacramento

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces fell to the Sacramento River Cats tonight 4-3, despite a strong outing from Zach Lee. The loss splits the series with Sacramento, making it five straight series’ to start the season without a series loss.

Sacramento jumped out to the early lead, scoring in the first inning as Jason Krizan crossed home after a wild pitch from Lee. The run was the only one Lee allowed to score, going five innings allowing nine hits and striking out five.

Reno answered back in the bottom of the second, after Matt Lipka scored on a passed ball to make it 1-1. Lipka reached base on a one-out double, and moved to third on a wild pitch. Last night, Lipka was the hero with a walkoff single to score two and win 7-6.

Neither team would score until the bottom of the sixth, despite both teams threatening in the third, fourth and fifth. Daulton Varsho led off with a triple, before scoring on a double from Drew Ellis to make it a 2-1 Aces lead.

Sacramento put up two runs in the top of the seventh off of a two-run Joey Bart homer to make it 3-2 Sacramento.

The Aces answered right back with a solo shot from Josh VanMeter in the bottom of the eighth to tie it up at three, before the River Cats pushed one across in the top of the ninth to make it a 4-3 Sacramento win.

The Aces are off tomorrow, and will hit the road to take on the Las Vegas Aviators for a six-game series starting Thursday at 7:05 p.m. PT. All games will be broadcast locally on KPLY 630AM or RenoAces.com, with Zack Bayrouty on the call.
