SUMMERLIN, Nev. – Cooper Hummel’s strong night at the plate wasn’t enough, as the Reno Aces fell 6-5 to the Las Vegas Aviators. Hummel finished the night with two RBIs and a run scored, while going 2-for-4.

Reno struck first in the second inning, scoring off of a two-run homer from Jose Herrera. The long ball was his fourth of the season, and second in the last four games. Prior to that, Herrera had just two homers in his previous 41 games with Reno.

The 2-0 lead was short lived, as Las Vegas countered with four runs in the bottom of the second to make it a 4-2 Aviator lead.

The two teams traded runs in the third, with Reno’s run coming after Jake Hager raced home on a sacrifice fly from Cooper Hummel. Las Vegas’ run in the bottom of the third would make it a 5-3 game.

Las Vegas added another in the fourth to make it a 6-3 Aviators lead.

Hager would notch a leadoff homer in the seventh, before Hummel drove in Alek Thomas to make it a 6-5 game.

The Aviators would hold onto the one-run lead, taking the game 6-5.

The six-game series presses on tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. PT from Summerlin. The game can be heard on KPLY 630AM or on RenoAces.com with Zack Bayrouty on the call.
