Salt Lake City, UT – José Herrera sparkled in all facets of the game in an 8-3 Reno Aces (9-8) victory over the Salt Lake Bees (6-12) Thursday night at Smith’s Ballpark.
Herrera was involved in five of Reno’s eight runs, driving in three and scoring twice. The sturdy backstop drove in Andrés Chaparro as part of a three-run second before doubling home two more in the fourth. He added another hit in a two-run sixth.
Cristian Mena didn’t allow an earned run and struck out seven over four innings. The 21-year-old worked around trouble in multiple frames, leaning on his swing and miss slider and the guidance of Herrera behind the plate. Francisco Morales was fantastic in relief with five strikeouts over two scoreless innings.
