Tacoma, WA – The Reno Aces (5-7) struck out 15 on the mound but had trouble solving Dallas Keuchel and the Tacoma Rainiers (10-3) pitching staff in a 5-2 loss Friday night at Cheney Stadium.

The Rainiers slugged their way to a 3-0 lead with two more homers in the second inning, knocking Humberto Castellanos out of the game early. Reno’s bullpen did a fantastic job keeping the game within distance. Brandon Hughes fired two perfect innings with three strikeouts while Dakota Chalmers continued his outstanding start to the season with three strikeouts in a scoreless seventh. Overall, the bullpen allowed just two hits and struck out 11 over 6 2/3 innings.

Pavin Smith added an RBI single, but Reno’s lineup fell mostly flat against Keuchel and an onslaught of Tacoma relievers. The series continues Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. with Jordan Montgomery scheduled to start for the Aces in game five.
